Globe Theatre Rehabilitation

Overview

The Globe Theatre is located in the historic Prince Edward Building, a listed heritage landmark in downtown Regina.

The goals of the project included restoring the building envelope and a complete renovation of the interior to bring it to 21st Century standards for life safety, mechanical and electrical systems, and theatre function.

P3A undertook an extensive survey of the existing building and developed a 3-D Revit model identifying the historical elements of the building as well as a detailed building system analysis. With strict adherence to the Heritage building requirements P3A developed a concept design from the feasibility study that is both modern and respectful to historical elements.

The Prince Edward Building had been extensively renovated on the interior, and very little of its original character remained. Therefore, the approach for the interior design was not to attempt to recreate a historical interior. Instead, the intent shifted to exposing and highlighting what remains of the historical character and make reference to the interior finishes and materials that may have existed within the building.(Historical Image: City of Regina Archives)
